Motivation: The Key to Unlocking a Business' True Potential by Josh Stone
Motivation. It's something talked about in every single field. Whether it's sports, music or business, motivation is constantly talked about as being the key to becoming great. But is this really the case? Is motivation something that everyone needs in order to rise above all the rest? The answer is an overwhelming yes! In order for any business to become successful, motivation is absolutely required. No business can expect to become better than its competitors without motivation.
Motivation: Why Your Business Desperately Needs It
When people start anything, whether it's a business or a music career, they usually have the motivation to do it. Otherwise, they wouldn't even start it. It's possible that you had a lot of motivation when you first started your business, but it has since fizzled. Not a big deal, right? You can just continue on without motivation and your business will still be successful, right? That's not really the case. A business without motivation is a business that is bound to fail. You literally cannot continue on and expect your business to do well if you and your employees have little to no motivation to get things done. To be successful requires a lot of productivity and creativity. To be productive or creative, you need motivation.
How Do We Get the Motivation Back?
Now that you know why you need motivation, just what is the key to getting it back? Well, it's actually a lot easier than you might imagine. It simply requires a few specific techniques. If you do these, you'll be able to be more motivated than ever before.
1. Hire a Motivational Speaker
You've probably heard this suggested before and have thought “that won't work at all.” That's not really true, though. Motivational speakers can be a godsend to employers that want to give their employees a kick in the pants to start working toward becoming more productive and more enthusiastic about work.
2. Set Goals
How can you achieve things if you don't know what you're going after? Setting goals is important not just in your personal life, but in business, too. By setting goals, you are letting your employees know what they are expect to do and when it needs to be done. Goals are like constant reminders of what the business as a whole is working toward—they hold the business accountable. And they are a huge key to motivation.
3. Create a Plan
You have the goals—how do you reach them? The answer? A plan. Once you know what you want your business and its employees to accomplish, you need to tell them how to do it. Like goals, a plan helps to hold everyone accountable. It helps to ensure that the work necessary to make the business successful in done. In short, it motivates employees.
4. Weekly Meetings
After a plan is created, you need to stick with it. Probably the easiest way to make sure people are sticking to the plan is to hold weekly meetings. During these meetings, you can go over what progress has or hasn't been made in regards to the plan. Plus, you can use this meeting time to discuss suggestions for ways of improving the business plan. Not only that, but you can also speak with employees and see if they are feeling overwhelmed by the plan, underworked by it etc. If they aren't happy with the plan, changes can be made.
While it is possible not all of these suggestions will work, it is almost guaranteed that at least one of them will give your business and employees a much needed kick start in motivation.
