Last decade has seen lot of changes in the attitude of students toward their career. Those days are gone now, when you got limited number fields to choose from .In fact, today you have endless job opportunities. As the world is taking huge steps in field of science, our whole society, economics and social structure is transforming .I asked my nephew two days back what he want to become when he’ll be young, his answer was straight “ethical hacker”. I said that’s illegal he said “no” and explained many companies employ hackers to eliminate any loop holes in their soft wares. So, that in future it would be safe from many undesired bugs, viruses, Trojans. So, it depends, what your interest is, but most popular career choice among youngster now a days is to pursue a security career, whether its joining a police force, army or personal security

Increase in inclination towards security career might arise from various reasons. Many consider it to be influenced of action movies. We all had fantasies about holding a gun and killing villain like Arnold, Bruce Willis or Jackie Chan. Some consider it as a result of patriotic live that gripped all entire USA after Iraq war. Inclination towards security career is justified by simple reason like serving a society to reason as weird as to become personal security guard of celebrities like Brittney, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

What ever the reason is, good thing is thousands of young lads are choosing this career and bad thing is “drop out” rate also higher. Why? Researcher says, in security career, you need a well-balanced mind and good control over your senses. Most dropouts are those who just aren’t fully mentally and physically prepared to face harsh challenges involved. As soon as they join force or security their teenage dream turns into harsh reality and in no time they are back in their 9 to 5 job.

So, its very very important to know, what steps are necessary before stepping into this profession, which brings us to the motive of writing this article. To make it simpler, I will discuss all steps one by one which will give you insight about “how to jump start your security career”

Motivation : - The first requirement is motivation, you can’t even think of joining this career until you have good motivation. There is always risk of life in this profession ask any security official guarding bank .He will tell you, each and every minute he has to be alert. A slight mistake can cause loss of lives. So, motivate yourself that’s first important thing.

Know about truth: -Things isn’t always same as they look from outer crust. Every profession got many layers that only people involved can tell. The best way to go is to call your local police force or local RCMP detachment. Ask them, if they can take you along. This will give you practical field experience and I am sure startling facts will come into light. Majority of daydreamers will leave after this step. They will realize if this job isn’t meant for them or not.

Communicate: -Talk with local police officer, tell them you like this job and want to pursue career in it, make some good contacts at the station and ask them what qualities they want from their officers, what they like, what they dislike and on which fields candidates should emphasize more. This will prepare you for future interviews.

Decide on force: - As I mentioned earlier, in security career, there are many lines to choose from make up your mind which particular force you want to join. If you want to join RCMP, look at the website, they will clearly tell you what their requirements are. Along with this, you have to attend training sections that are held in all over the country if ou are unaware of their schedule and want to know when their training session will start in your city, call local detachment for information. After this, next step is to write RCMP police aptitude test and then PARE. Then series of investigation tests are performed. Finally, if you can clear all the re quests you will be selected to enroll in cadet training program at RCMP dept. in Regina, Saskatchewan.

On the other hand if you are interested in joining local police in your town or municipality. First thing you should do is to call them or check their website, this is to get clear idea of what qualification you need to work as a police officer. Ask them how many posts are vacant and exact procedures to get into this field. It is important to mention here that in Canada different states demand different qualifications. Some hire you first and send you to govt. regulated Police College, where you will get well physical and mental training required being police officer. On the contrary some police department completion of policing course from your side to get better idea you can always join prepatory courses that are taught in many renowned universities and colleges throughout Canada

Be ready :- “Police training” isn’t child’s play. It is very intense and you have got to be prepared to deal with personal or physical fitness and aptitude test. In addition to this don’t forget paperwork involved and background check after 9/11 and Al qaeda threats, Canadian government has intensified these types of checks as they don’t want any terrorists into their police or security department. Sometimes, people think all police care about is written and physical test, and as a result give less attention to paper work. But this isn’t the case practically.

Policing is a thrilling, satisfying and rewarding career. It is one of the few careers, where you can earn good social reputation as well. It is the best way you can serve the society and inspires new generation to get into this field.

This police or the security career is one of the attractive and adventurous careers that are available to the new aspirants. This career has not only money as a salary but also an important role to play towards the society.

Other than this there are special units like harbor patrolling units, special weapons units, motorcycle units, emergency squads and quick reactions teams all these have their own nature of work but at the end of the they serve only towards the betterment of the mankind and uplifting the nation.

Now days there are police training academies and colleagues that provide education in police science and in military securities. One can get in contact with these institutions and can very well opt for the career in either security or in the police force.
